EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR)
According to recent information, the start date for the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) has been postponed by one year and will now come into effect on 30 December 2026. Puumerkki has already begun preparing to meet the requirements set by the regulation.
The purpose of the regulation is to improve the traceability of certain raw materials (including wood) and the products made from them, as well as to reduce global deforestation, forest degradation, and the loss of biodiversity.
According to the regulation, raw materials and products may be placed on the EU market only if:
- they have not caused deforestation
- they are produced in compliance with the legislation of the country of origin
- a due diligence statement (DD statement) has been issued for them
Puumerkki is following the official guidance related to the implementation of the regulation and will refine its operating practices accordingly before the regulation takes effect.
